Chanel's latest was displayed recently at the Grand Palais. The scene was pure glamor. Its airy metallic architecture, soaring volume and cupola were all there... and yet, it's through a street… the perfect replica of the Rue Cambon in Paris, that Press and Buyers alike enter the space. Amused and intrigued, they discover the white facade of the legendary CHANEL building, acquired by Coco herself in 1928, which has become overnight the stage for the presentation.

Like at the entrance of the mythic House, a doorman opens the way, this time to models driven by bouncing music enter a runway transformed into the Rue Cambon. Tall dynamic silhouettes, long legs and short skirts, play with the many nuances of blacks, whites, delicate pinks and greys. For the models, neat hairstyles and micro jackets in the pure spirit of the House, in pink or pearl grey tweeds or adorned with geometric applications. Round shouldered short coats - worn over a dress or short skirt, play with graphic looks, or with pink, black or white, the very fetish colors of CHANEL.

Dresses elongate the silhouette. They enchant on a soft iridescent background of lamé camellias. Others contrast the black and the white, form a delicate cage of shiny lattice over a simple sheath, graciously tie a bow to the neckline, under the bust or play with graphic borders and subtle embroideries. Delicate pleats ornate diaphanous blouses and a blush pink crepe de chine jumpsuit. A "gypsy" dress flaunts its tiered ruffles in a shimmering cascade and whimsically sports the latest accessory of the House, a guitar strapped in its signature leather. "Mademoiselle CHANEL always did ruffled dresses... they were her "gypsy" look" commented later Karl Lagerfeld.

On the accessories side, the bags, this season, humorously "twist" the look of the coveted House "shopping bag" into its highly sophisticated and ultra-chic leather counterpart..., simply stamped with the "cult" address and logo! The famous quilted bag mixes "crocodile" and alligator or is whimsically carried “upside down". Pantyhose beckons for attention, barely opaque down to below the knee and sheer on the leg, they boast a flirtatious seam at the back. Platform pumps in bi-colored plexi revel in subtle transparence. Others spike the glamour note with a fringe of black or pink feathers. Made by Maison Michel, the gracious and airy headdresses marry tulle and feathers, elongating even further the CHANEL silhouette imagined for the upcoming spring-summer by Karl Lagerfeld.
